Tonight was a sad night in our household. We got home tonight to find out that our fishies "Pretty" and "Goldie" were VERY VERY sick and on the verge of death. They were no longer swimming around when you would tap the bowl, they were barely moving their precious little fins. Rather than put the kids through finding them upside down at the top of the bowl in the morning, I decided that individually we would have a little memorial type (say good-bye) ceremony with the kids and then let them help me flush them down the toilet. Lexi was sad, but she seemed to deal with it ok and understood it was for the best. Sean on the other hand cried for over an hour, and still if you mention the name Goldie or ask about his fish he will well up and start puckering. I even tried to talk to them about getting a different kind of fish that would be easier to care for and would live longer, they seemed receptive, but he is still distraught. Who knew that having a fish for 3 days could cause a child so much inner turmoil.
So we say Good-bye to one chapter of our pet lives and Good-bye to our precious fishy friends; that are swimming in Heaven with all their fishy spirit friends as we speak. And we say hello to a dawning of new pets. We will be fish shopping tommorrow afterschool and will be sure to share pics when all is said and done.
